Expect the Unexpected: Enid, OK Testimonial
Adina, office manager for the Enid Public School district, is no stranger to the unexpected.
“You just never know what life is going to hand you. You may think it will never affect you, but it can. That’s why I’m a big advocate for when American Fidelity comes into the office,” she says. “It’s beyond comforting, knowing you and your family have that safety net.”
Adina understands this comfort firsthand. Her husband died from cancer while working for the same district. Thankfully, Adina had urged him to sign up for a Limited Benefit Cancer Insurance policy prior to his diagnosis.
“If we didn’t have that policy for the last two years, I don’t know where I would be.”
She adds “During that time, American Fidelity helped me understand what I had covered and how to go about getting what I needed. I reached out in an email, and they were immediate in their response.”
Since then, Adina has purchased every policy except for disability insurance – something she plans to change during this year’s open enrollment period. This preparation is a stark difference compared to when she first encountered American Fidelity.
Earning Trust
At first, Adina was apprehensive to meet with American Fidelity. Like many employees, she had a presumed notion that the American Fidelity representatives would try to sell her unnecessary products. This concern kept Adina from asking questions and purchasing benefits until she decided to finally speak with a representative.
Not only did Adina feel relief in knowing about her benefits, but she purchased a Limited Benefit Critical Illness Insurance policy because of her medical history. Her decision came from conversations with her representative, something she considers more of a collaboration rather than a product sell. Adina even keeps past materials from her representatives to show coworkers who may be on the fence like she once was.
“I’ll hear my old concerns about American Fidelity from a couple new people in my office. I’ll always tell them to sign up for the accident insurance, even handing them materials given to me by representatives,” she says. “We really try to discuss enrolling in benefits beforehand – from the different packages provided to what they mean for us.”
Demystifying employee benefits and the enrollment experience may be a crucial first step in securing the type of benefits employees like Adina tout with pride.
Benefits or Bust
Adina’s leadership agrees there is power in the enrollment experience employees have with American Fidelity. Sam Robinson, CFO of Enid Public Schools, admits that many of his employees might seek employment elsewhere if it weren’t for the benefits he provides.
Understanding the gravity of this, Sam dedicates his time to monitoring American Fidelity’s enrollment process. During his early years as CFO, Sam would sit in on several enrollments with the approval of his employees, ensuring all open enrollments in the district run with the employees’ interests in mind.
“Sometimes talking about benefits can be personal, so that’s why I value the conversations American Fidelity can have with employees,” says Sam. “With some of these packages offered to our employees, I hope they never use them – especially when you’re talking about cancer and disability policies.”
Nowadays, Sam doesn’t feel the need to sit in on these in-person meetings. Still, he utilizes online and print materials all year round to answer common questions. When Sam doesn’t have that answer, he says it’s easy to make a call or send an email to a dedicated representative, typically receiving a response within 24 hours.
Invest in Yourself
One of the aspects Sam appreciates about American Fidelity is its ability to adapt to the needs of a district.
“Just like the first meeting I had with them, it was ‘we’re here to serve you.’ Nothing has changed since. If that’s the approach with every school district, then I believe American Fidelity is meeting everybody’s needs,” he says.
Adina is thankful to be one of these employees, seeing these policies as ways to invest in yourself.
“The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to partner with American Fidelity,” says Adina. “Do it before you think you’ll ever need it.”
