American Fidelity Provides $35,000 Furniture Donation to Oklahoma City Public Schools

Oklahoma City-based American Fidelity Assurance (AFA) Company recently donated $35,000 worth of furniture to Oklahoma City Public Schools. The donation will benefit four schools initially: Douglass Mid-High School, Roosevelt Middle School, Martin Luther King Elementary and Greystone Upper Elementary.
The donation saves the district time and money by alleviating the need to select a furniture vendor, complete purchasing and wait for delivery and assembly of the new cubicles. The district has identified 29 central office staff members who will be housed at school sites in the coming weeks. Six IT instructional support team members have already moved into their new space at Douglass Mid-High School. Members of the curriculum department will work out of Greystone Upper Elementary, English Language Learner staff will move to Roosevelt Middle School and the Early Childhood Education team will office out of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary. These changes provide an improved workspace for these employees so they are better able to serve district students and staff members.
“We appreciate American Fidelity’s spirit of generosity; it reflects the community support that is so critical to our district. The donation will help place a number of our central office staff members closer to the customers we support: our students, teachers and principals,” said Dave Lopez, OKCPS interim superintendent.
Several OKCPS Central Office employees will begin moving into the designated school sites during the month of April. This transition will improve customer service and increase support for school staff.
American Fidelity founder C.W. Cameron often said, “The most important asset anyone has is the ability to work and earn a living.” That ability to work starts with education, which is one of the reasons AFA has always focused on serving teachers and school staff members, helping to ease financial obligations during life’s unexpected turns. Today, AFA provides voluntary supplemental insurance to Oklahoma City Public Schools and many other school districts across the United States, along with serving other niche markets.
“Educators are the foundation of our success as a company and our success as a nation,” said Dave Carpenter, American Fidelity president and chief operating officer. “We’re proud to support our local school system any way we can, whether it’s by donating furniture, contributing to the Teachers’ Warehouse, building a playground or encouraging colleagues to tutor through our partnership with Buchanan Elementary, which is part of the Oklahoma City Public Schools.”
