American Fidelity Creates Four New Strategic Leadership Positions


(Oklahoma City, OK) – Oklahoma City-based American Fidelity Assurance Company (AFA) continues to expand by creating four new strategic leadership positions. These new positions will help AFA create sales and marketing strategies that work across all of the existing niche industries they serve and meet the evolving needs of Customers.

“These new positions will help us continue to streamline processes across divisions and better serve our Customers,” said Gary Tredway, president, Worksite Group. “It will also allow us to react faster to industry changes, such as the evolving regulations within Health Care Reform, and provide Customers with the information and products they need.”

All four of the positions were filled by internal candidates through AFA’s strong Promote from Within program. Although about 50 percent of positions are filled internally, American Fidelity regularly seeks external candidates as well and currently has open positions ranging from benefits adjusters to high-level market research, legal and technical positions.

The four new positions are:

Vice Chairman and Director, Worksite Group Product and Strategy

Larry Alkire

Larry Alkire joined AFA 24 years ago and served in various sales and product management roles before accepting his current position. In his new role, Alkire plans to gain efficiencies, keep branding and processes consistent and implement best practices across divisions to support the Customers’ needs.

Chief Marketing Officer

Susan Relland

Since joining AFA in 2009 from the law firm of Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC, Susan Relland’s primary responsibility has been providing Health Care Reform education and assistance for our Customers. As CMO, Relland will bring together divisional marketing teams to provide support for our strategic business units and continue to identify innovative benefit solutions for our Customers.

Worksite Operations Director

Lisa Knatvold

Lisa Knatvold joined AFA in 1991 in group underwriting, holding a host of positions in sales, marketing and Customer service. In her new role, Knatvold plans to help the Company with a faster speed to market for developing new products and web systems for Customers. She is also charged with ensuring AFA has continual improvements to Customer service systems and operations models.

Chief Operating Officer, American Fidelity Educational Services          

Traci Hampton               

With over 20 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry, Traci Hampton brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to her new role as COO of AFES. Hampton will ensure all operations areas within AFA are using similar systems and are running efficiently.  

AFA is one of the largest employers in Oklahoma City with about 1,500 employees. More than 1,000 Colleagues work in Oklahoma City, while the rest are spread among 26 locations across the United States.
